Richard and Vickie moved from Leesburg to rural western Loudoun County in 1999. They found this beautiful piece of property that was home to famous radio and television personality Arthur Godfrey from the 1940s through the 1970s. This particular property was Mr. Godfrey’s “Game Preserve” where he kept his exotic animals. It was to be the perfect place to build their family home which was designed by Richard with the assistance of an architect. Built between 1998-1999, they moved in over the July Fourth holiday 1999.

The Front Porch

The main feature of the house is the very large front porch that is over 90 feet long and 14 feet wide. It has served as the venue for seated dinners for up to 100 people and numerous receptions. The porch overlooks the rolling hills of western Loudoun and a recently planted vineyard just over the hill. The porch is lined with white rocking chairs in the center and a cozy conversation area on the east end.

The Great Room

The entrance foyer features a spiral staircase to the upstairs guest rooms and another stairwell that descends to "the pub" and The Capital Room. It opens into the great room which features a massive stone fireplace towering twenty feet upward and 16 feet wide. On cold winter evenings and mornings, there is always a roaring fire burning and guests are invited to cozy up on the large leather sectional that surrounds it.

The Pub

The pub is downstairs and it was renovated and repurposed in 2012 as a comfortable place to watch sports, have a glass of wine, a beer or a mixed drink from the fully-stocked bar. You may also enjoy playing a game of billiards, foosball, or table shuffleboard on the custom-made regulation-sized shuffleboard table. You may also enjoy perusing the collection of sports memorabilia. There is a humidor stocked with a variety of cigars for enjoyment outside by the fire pit.
